Retirement

Bill having practiced law with David Amy for over 45 years (April 1977) it is fitting that they both have decided to retire from the practice of law at GGFI at the same time, effective December 31, 2024. Bill has retired from the practice of law and is looking forward to spending more time with his family and also relaxing, golfing and travelling in retirement.

Professional Focus

Bill practised law for over 45 years in Kitchener-Waterloo. After completing his B.A. in History/Political Science at the University of Waterloo he then attended the University of Windsor, Ontario, completing his law degree in 1975.  Upon his call to the bar in 1977, Bill joined David Amy and Peter Brennan, forming the law firm of Amy, Appleby & Brennan (AAB) in Waterloo.

Bill’s practice was primarily in the areas of real estate, wills and estates, municipal law, commercial/contractual and estate litigation.  He also worked with many corporate clients in their formation as well as on an ongoing basis, including commercial purchases and commercial landlord and tenant work.

Community Involvement

Bill has been actively involved in Minor Hockey as a Past President and Life Member of Alliance Hockey, Vice-President and Chair of Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Minor hockey and also Life Member of the OHF.  In 2014, Bill was recognized by the CHA with the Award of Merit for his volunteer contribution to Minor Hockey in Central Ontario, one of three awarded each year in all of Canada, which recognition is displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He coached minor baseball at the AAA level in both Waterloo and Kitchener.  Bill is an avid golfer, having won the Ontario Juvenile Championship and representing Ontario in inter-provincial matches against Quebec.  Bill was also a member of the University of Waterloo golf team prior to law school.

More About Bill

Bill is married and has three adult children.  He is a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.  He enjoys golf and now has more time to play since he is no longer coaching AAA baseball and is retired.  Bill and his wife enjoy travel and hope to visit many new and exciting places in the years to come following his retirement.
